About this mod

A mod in a potential rebalance series. This mod aims to rebalance the Lever Action Rifle while keeping the Vanilla Attachment system intact. Also includes supplementary Lever Action Weapons to spread across the Commonwealth and Far Harbor. And a Bonus Update for The Mare's Leg by Muoviori!

I love lever actions but I feel the lever action in vanilla to be…questionable. Like I get what they’re trying to achieve, low spread highly accurate lever rifle. Though the recoil felt puny. It didn’t feel like I was shooting a big rifle, it felt like I was shooting a pipe bolt action. The damage it starts with is low, you’re meant to take the powerful receiver to give it a massive 75% damage boost. Yes you effectively go from +25% hardened receiver to 75% Powerful receiver. It’s meant to catch you up to speed in the Far Harbor DLC but it just leads to it feeling really cheap. (The Nukaworld AK has this gripe as well but arguably worse.) the rest were fine honestly but I elected to change parts that I usually do in my mods. So these changes will help fit with my mods better! At least the simplified ones.

  • Aim model is completely overhauled - I used the aim model from the vanilla hunting rifle and WARS Lever rifle as a base but I adjusted the values to be more vanilla friendly. It kicks much harder and has more spread but it still beats the hunting rifle in terms of hip fire accuracy and recoil.
  • The Lever Action Rifle is now classified as a “Sniper”
    Lever Action is now right handed. (Tbh I don’t mind it being left handed, I find the lever action anims to be quite good honestly. But I’ll explain why in a sec)
  • Heavy Receivers give as much damage as a hardened receiver at the cost of weight.
  • Light receivers simply make the gun lighter. Increased AP bonus.
  • Tuned receivers now increase the fire rate by 50% instead of 25.
  • Standardizes the damage progression. Crafting is adjusted accordingly.
  • Buffed damage to 48. You get slightly more damage than vanilla with the advance receiver. The progression to that final damage is alot more natural. 
  • Nerfed AP cost to 34
  • Stock stats are adjusted
  • You can now extend the ammo count to 7 instead of 5. Complete with a new reload for third person and first person! Courtesy of Hitman and Antistar.
  • Adjusted Barrel progression. (Short > Short Ported > Long > Ported Long > Long (Extended Tube) > Ported Long (Extended tube)
  • New Muzzle: Bayonet Courtesy of Spadey!
  • Compensator now has a -5% AP bonus (Great for VATS Builds!)
  • Suppressor takes a -7.5% damage penalty. I don’t care if it isn’t realistic. You get sneak crits and Ace Operator. You’ll live.
  • New sight progression: You start with a pin sight, you then get a rear sight, and rear glow sight. This is similar to my pump shotgun mods if you ever used em. Whether it’s the Ithaca, Remington or Mossberg. 
  • Reflex sights are nerfed. The glow sights now give the most AP benefits. The AP reduction from the Reflex has been reduced to -15% to -2.5%. 
  • Added “Combat Sights”. Better stats that the reflex sights at the cost of lower FOV.
  • Added Nydar Sight, Courtesy of Antistar. 
  • Added Aimpoint / Professional’s Combat Sight
  • JKRuse’s WATTZ night vision scope mod is a requirement so you can get visually distinct scopes.

Now alot of this requires manual edits which I’m sure made many of you write this mod off already. So I’m offering to sweeten the deal and made 2 additional lever action weapons. FNV (Da Better Gaem!!!!) had a collection of levers to offer. I think Fo4 has a great lever action to work off of so I wanted to make Fo4 equivalents of commonly created Lever Action Weapons in games. 


Traveler’s Carbine: A .44 Caliber lever action rifle. Spawns at level 18. Comes with an implied “Mare’s Leg” Configuration that will chamber the gun in .357 if spawned with the Short Rifle configuration. Spawns on Triggermen, Gunner Snipers, High Level Gunners, Trappers, Raider Bosses, Vendors, Minutemen and Legendries.


Lever Action Boomstick: A 20 Gauge early game Manual Action shotgun. Meant as a bridge to a 12 gauge Pump/Lever shotgun or a Magfed 20 gauge shotty. Spawns at Level 7. This gun in particular has a much more crude look to it as it’s a bit of a raider gun than anything else. Spawns on Raiders, Gunner Snipers, Trappers, Minutemen, Vendors, and Legendries. 
A patch is also provides for Dak’s Wood Finished mod. It cleans the left over Navmesh info in the esp, and re-numbers it to be ESL flagged. Also moved the attachment point to ap_WeaponMaterial as there’s no skins for the lever action.

Bonus: Mare’s Leg Unofficial Update

I LOOOVE this mod. Such a simple concept but adds so much to the game. I gave it the works with this one.

  • Vanillafied Receiver Progression. 
  • Rebalanced Barrels. Added Light Variants of each.
  • Baked in Right Handed versions which used these animations provided. 
  • Massive material overhaul across the board. It should react to the base game’s lighting better (Hope I didn’t butcher your work Muov)
  • Changed INNR to vanilla CommonGun.
  • Now displays “Pistol” on the gun.
  • Raised the iron sights a bit
  • Added Glow Sights!
  • Added Nydar Sight!
  • Added Combat Sight!
  • New Muzzles! Bayonet, Comp and Muzzlebrake
  • .45 and Shotgun Shells are now it’s own rechamber attachment point. 
  • The 45-70 Receiver is now a completely new unique called “20% Deadlier”. It can be found at Easy City Downs! 

Munitions addons:

  • 20 Gauge Edition: Changes Shotgun Shells to 20 gauge
  • Varmint Edition: Reworks the rechamber entirely to be a .410 Version!

Q: Does it Require the Right Handed Lever mod? 
A: No, these come built in. It uses the variant from WARS.
Q: Does this work with the attachment pack?
A: Yes. Just expect some minor balance inconsistencies. My additions took the attachment pack under consideration. Hence why there’s no muzzle brake or anything.
