Added silent options for level up music - this replaces the choral/hyeurgh hyargh music played when selecting perks in the perk menu, as well as milestone level ups (I know it annoyed me!)
Updated fomod version to match the Nexus!
Version 6.0 - reupload
Wrong directory for pencily map sounds! Fixed now, so you can update if you want those pencily map marker rollover sounds.
Version 6.0
Corrected a file directory, now journal switching/category switching will be papery again with Dear Diary!
Added optional silent map marker rollover sounds, for those who just want just the default mouseover sound for the map markers.
Version 5.9
Removed the swf files from this mod, to allow for maximum compatibility, and made changes to the config file to work with Dear Diary. You can now find all the swf files in the new update of Dear Diary! You should install this new update to use it, as this allows Dear Diary to use my sounds. Those that don't use Dear Diary, all other sounds are still here as usual.
Version 5.8
I... somehow managed to package the vanilla sounds for town discovery into the last update. Well done me. Fixed now!
Increased the volume for new quest scribbling sounds, for those using varied quest update sounds.
Version 5.7
Updated the map.swf file with an improved version provided by uranreactor! Should be much faster now, with little to no performance impact. Try this new one if the previous version led to any problems!
Working on some spell equipping sounds. If you have other ideas, let me know!
Version 5.5
Added a pencil writing option for confirmation/cancel sounds for those who want saving to sound a bit more like writing, as well as making custom map markers sound like you're writing on the map.
Added an optional file which replaces the custom map marker blue pointer with a red cross mark! Uses Dear Diary's beige map markers by uranreactor, if anyone wants it with normal map markers I can see what I can do.
Reduced volume of quest activation sound and fixed a few other sounds.
Version 5.3 reupload
Reuploaded because of missing level up sounds, sorry!
Version 5.3
Added in uranreactor's fix for those using the swf files without Dear Diary installed.
If you encounter any more ctds with the swf files, please let me know. Not too sure what could be causing the problem at the moment, maybe a conflict with another UI mod?
Otherwise, the sound replacers and the ESPFE are fine to use by themselves to get more variety in sounds, so you can leave swf files unchecked if there are problems.
Still experimenting at the moment, so please leave feedback! Reverted volumes to 4.9 levels
Version 5.2.1
Split the ESPFE and swf files for those that don't use Dear Diary, or for anyone who runs into issues.
Reupload to fix FOMOD.
Version 5.2
Added .swf files provided by uranreactor that make switching between menu categories and journal tabs more papery, with related changes to the ESPFE. Thank you to uranreactor for guiding me through that!
Added variations in the menu switching sounds, to work with the above.
Added varied quest sounds for those using the ESPFE. Now different sounds will play when getting a new quest, updating a quest, and finishing a quest.
Normalized the volume of a few more sounds
More FOMOD fixes :) version now reads correctly!
Version 4.9 reupload
Alternate blade menu open sounds were way too quiet, sorry about that.
And a second reupload to fix the broken fomod
Version 4.9
Added an ESPFE which edits some sound activations and adds blade menu opening variations to improve your experience! Still totally optional.
Added alternate blade menu opening sounds and alternate quest update sounds (to work with ESPFE above)
Replaced town discovery sounds as well, missed them the first time round since Bethesda didn't name them well!
Version 4.7
Added optional sounds for level up and skill increase. Try them out and let me know if you like them, or think they can be improved. Published an updated showcase video, check it out to hear the new sounds :)
More volume fixes! Let me know if any volume doesn't seem right, so that I can fix it as well.
FOMOD fixes.
Version 4.3
Removed all Oblivion assets from the FOMOD to avoid... Bethesda problems. Now all sounds are either royalty free, recorded by me, or provided by a credited mod author. Only two sounds have been changed in that respect, unless you used Oblivion options. Thank you to u\_Robbie for bringing Bethesda's policies to my attention!
Replaced the close blade menu sound with a different one (to resolve issue above)
Added a sword drawing sound as a start new game option.
Shortened the location discovery scribbles
Changed more volumes. Should be more consistent now.
Version 4.0
Removed the silence at the start of a few sounds, hopefully this eliminates any delay when opening menus etc.
Normalised a few more volumes, so you don't have really loud page turns and then super quiet quest activations.
Removed an accidental duplicate sound when opening the journal, replaced it with a different one to add some variety.
Added some silent files in the fomod in case people want silent sneak attacks or silent new game sounds.
Version 3.9
Added my own journal open/close sounds, to make them more consistent with the other sounds. Thanks again to Fesliyan Studios ;)
Created an alternate sneak attack sound. Try it out and see if you like it! It's much subtler than the vanilla version, made using a wind whoosh and a foliage impact. Will showcase soon.
Added a better page turn for start new game, though I fear there may be overlapping with the new journal sounds. Might include a blank file for new game next time, since we don't need to turn two pages at once. Any suggestions for a different start new game sound?
Removed the main menu replacer and oblivion level up from the fomod, to save space. You can still find these in miscellaneous files.
Fixed a broken path in the fomod for oblivion optionals. Also fixed a few typos. Sorry fellas!
More sound tweaks! Increased new quest and quest update volume.
Version 3.5
Added my own pencil sounds for location discovery. Let me know how this works, and if it plays anywhere it shouldn't!
Updated sounds in the fomod, converted some mono to stereo sound, and fixed a few folders. Also reduced the size of the images, sorry about the huge file last time.
I changed the version numbers, sorry if that's confusing! 3.5 is now the latest update, the update steps didn't really make sense before.
Version 3.0a
Normalized the volume of Shamplo's scribbly menu button sounds to fit with my added sounds, so now you can hear them!
Version 3.0
Added a FOMOD installer for all you lovely people! :) All previous options included.
Added options for sounds provided by Shamplo! Include scribbly button activation sounds, journal open/close sounds and map marker sounds for those not using the map fix by uranreactor.
Various fixes to sounds within the installer.
Version 2.0
Mouseover sound changed again. Now is a similar length to the vanilla sound, which should resolve overlapping problems. Doesn't sound as papery, but that will need more testing!
Also uploaded an optional file with a subtler mouseover sound. This one may be better than the update. I'm sorry for all the updates... I'm indecisive.
Version 1.9
Minor tweaks. Removed a tiny random click from ui_quest_active.wav and increased the volume of the new quest sound. More tweaks to ui_general_focus_01 (mouseover sound)... because I will always be tweaking that...
Version 1.8
Lots of tweaks. For one, tried a mellower menu focus sound. Tell me how this one works!
Noise reduction on a lot of sounds. Quietened a few sounds as well, and changed the pitch of others to be more consistent.
Changed new quest and quest update sounds to be more consistent with the others
Changed menu ok and menu cancel sounds to be more papery and less hissy.
Version 1.4
Replaced the mouseover sound with a much better one - quiet pencil tap
Added uraneator's map.swf file as an optional, which allows a paper sound to play when the map is opened.
Added more sounds from A New Chapter: new quest, quest update.
Replaced the quest-activate scribble sound with a pencil circling. Let me know if you prefer this one! If not you can extract the one out of the previous version.
General adjustments.
Version 1.0
Initial release
A big thank you to everyone who has supported this mod on the nexus, I published this mod as a patchy work-in-progress and everyone's helped it become a fully fleshed out mod! I appreciate everyone's help! Please keep suggesting more improvements :D
I was inspired to do this by the amazing paper-themed mods on the Nexus, such as Dear Diary, Paper World Map, Oblivionesque Icons, Oblivion-like Loading Screens and others, and just wanted that final touch! I especially wanted opening the map to sound like opening a map, rather than the whooshing and the clunk-clunk sounds of the vanilla one. I found Immersive Map Sounds, but there were problems with it that I've also encountered myself - but hopefully now we paper-lovers have a fix!
I also found A New Chapter, UI Sound Replacer which was a good start, but didn't cover many sounds, so I thought I'd add some of my own!
As of now, you can choose to replace some, all or none of the following:
start new game
inventory/fave menu open/close sounds
menu focus sound (sound made when hovering over items and clicking between menus)
Has pretty much the same sounds as the current version, recent updates add variety with record changes.
Installation
Install with a mod manager and choose between various sound replacers, or extract and install what you want manually.
Enjoy! Don't forget to leave feedback if anything doesn't sound quite right (or if something sounds very right and you want more like that)
FAQ:
Q: Location discovery sounds are so quiet/loud. What's up with that? A: Unlike the other UI sounds, location discovery sounds are tied to your music setting. If your music volume is low in your settings, then the location discovery will be low, and vice versa.
Q: Pencil scribble when unequipping spells? A: Aye, Bethesda's fault. The unequipping magic sound is the same as quest deactivation it seems. My esp fixes this! :)
Q: Safe to install mid-playthrough? A: Yes, this is just a simple replacer. You can install/uninstall it no problems! :)
Please leave suggestions for improvements and for more sounds to cover in the comments, and view my sticky to see what sounds I need ideas for! Thank you for your help!

Sounds used:
paper rustling and page turning sounds from Fesliyan Studios (thank ye kindly) which have worked for most of the sounds in this mod!
Other royalty-free paper rustling sounds for menu ok/cancel, sword drawing sound and pencil writing sounds.
Pencil scribbling for quest activating/deactivating. Imo this works pretty well, like the character is writing in an actual journal.
Pencil tapping, pen tapping, finger tapping for the focus sounds.
My own pencil scribbling sounds for location discovery.
Scribbling sounds from Nowimex's A New Chapter - UI Sound Replacer, to replace the objective update sounds. If you like any other sounds added by the mod, please go check it out!
Menu button sounds, map rollover echo and alternate journal sounds provided by Shamplo. If you want more sounds like those, you can check out his new mod Jotted Down which has the same aim as this mod, but has paper sounds in a different style. Try it out!
uranreactor, creator of the Dear Diary mod, has been kind enough to develop my map-sound crisis into something that works! Thanks for the ongoing support of my little mod :)
