V19 Installation Instructions

NOTE: V19 REQUIRES a fresh installation and a NEW character if you have been using previous versions of Legacy.  DO NOT attempt to upgrade an old character which was using a previous version, this will break your game. Legacy V19 CAN be installed on an existing save as long as NO version of Legacy has ever touched that save.

INSTALLATION

Legacy of the Dragonborn is designed as a foundational mod to build a load order around a certain type of play style. It is highly recommended that you start a fresh game rather than installing Legacy on a game in progress. Additionally if this game in progress has an older version of Legacy, it ABSOLUTELY cannot be installed over it.

Mod Organizer Install

  • Manually download Legacy of the Dragonborn V19 core package. This core file contains the main ESP, primary BSA and many loose files that could not fit into the BSA file. All are required.
  • Open your Mod Organizer program and install this package as a new mod. The core package is a simple install and go package which contains only the base mod.
  • Download any Legacy update patch if available. If there are any patches available which are newer than the core package, download this update. This package should be either manually extracted into your Legacy of the Dragonborn installation, or installed as a stand alone mod which loads after Legacy and is allowed to override anything from the core mod. Manual unpacking into the Legacy folder is recommended.
  • Visit the Patch Central mod page and download the latest patch FOMOD installer. All patches for Legacy are conglomerated into a single installer package. This FOMOD installer will typically detect what mods you have in your load order, so ensure that you have the required mod already installed before running the FOMOD installer. All files listed in the "updated" section are newer versions of files in the current FOMOD. All files listed under "Misc" or "Optional" are 3rd party patches not created by the development team or officially verified, but should still work cleanly.
  • Activate Legacy and all patches in your mod list and re-run LOOT
  • Rebuild your Bash Patch using Wrye Bash

Nexus Mod Manager (see note below)
  • Manually download Legacy of the Dragonborn V19 core package. This core file contains the main ESP, primary BSA and many loose files that could not fit into the BSA file. All are required.
  • Open NMM and add this package to NMM. This will move the archive file into your /data folder.
  • Activate Legacy in your mod list NMM may appear to stall during install. This is normal for NMM. Just wait and avoid multi-tasking when installing Legacy as it puts a HUGE drain on NMM and makes it want to curl up and cry in the corner if you are doing anything but installing. If you have difficulty verify that your scratch disk points to a hard label that has ample space for unpacking and installing large mods.
  • Download any Legacy update patch if available. If there are any patches available which are newer than the core package, download this update.
  • Install the update. This package should be either manually extracted into your Data folder, or installed as a stand alone mod which loads after Legacy and is allowed to override anything from the core mod. Manual unpacking into the Data folder is more reliable as NMM likes to ignore overwriting files sometimes, but it will make removal more difficult.

  • Note for NMM users: If you are removing an old version of Legacy prior to installing V19, you must tell NMM to purge all unmanaged files from your Data folder after removing the old version. NMM is leaving files behind after telling it to uninstall Legacy V18 or older, and these files interfere with a clean install of V19. Be aware  however that any assets you may have unpacked manually into your Data folder or created yourself will also likely be removed, so back these up ahead of time.

Manual Install

NOTE: Most of Legacy's asset files are packed inside of a BSA archive, but Legacy is huge and has more files than a BSA can handle, so therefore it still has a lot of loose files. We tried to confine them to specific folder groups for clarity but it does make manual install and especially uninstalling more difficult. Additionally the FOMOD patch installer is designed for NMM and MO use and will require a lot of investigation on your part to manually install from the pack. It is for these reasons we strongly recommend utilizing MO or NMM.

  • Download the Legacy of the Dragonborn core package. This core file contains the main ESP, primary BSA and many loose files that could not fit into the BSA file. All are required.
  • Extract all contents into your /DATA folder. Using 7Zip, WinRar, or any other reliable archive program, unpack all of the files into your /Data folder.
  • Download latest update if any. If there are any patches available which are newer than the core package, download this update.
  • Install the update. Once again with WinZip, WinRar, 7Zip, etc, extract the contents of the update file to your /Data folder and overwrite any file it prompts you for.
  • Activate Legacy of the Dragonborn in your mod list
  • Visit the Patch Central mod page and download the latest FOMOD patch pack. The patch pack FOMOD is designed for MO and NMM so utilizing it for a manual install will require you to delve into the sub folders and identify any patches you may need.

Extract any files from INSIDE the patch pack sub folders. Make sure to unpack all of the files contained within the needed folders but do not unpack the folder itself or the result will cause your patch files to be inside unusable sub folders instead of in the /data folder as intended.
  • Activate any patches and re-run LOOT
  • Rebuild your bash patch using Wrye Bash

Upgrading from older version to V19

V19 requires a fresh start. Delete your previous Legacy installations and start fresh. You MUST start a new character and upgraded saves from old versions are NOT SUPPORTED in any way shape for form. If you do upgrade you will almost certainly DESTROY your save game. If you are an advanced mod user and are VERY familiar with the inner workings of Legacy you may ATTEMPT to upgrade but NO SUPPORT will be given.

Note for NMM users: If you are removing an old version of Legacy prior to installing V19, you must tell NMM to purge all unmanaged files from your Data folder after removing the old version. NMM is leaving files behind after telling it
to uninstall Legacy V18 or older, and these files interfere with a clean
install of V19. Be aware  however that any assets you may have unpacked
manually into your Data
folder or created yourself will also likely be removed, so back these up ahead of time.

Installing an update patch

Updating a V19 installation with the latest update patch is simple enough. Install the update as indicated in the installation notes above. If installing it on an existing V19 install and save in progress, the update may require script cleaning, depending on what was updated and what the update notes instruct. If an update requires script cleaning, download the Save Game Script Cleaner utility and follow the Script Cleaning Guide on the article tab.

Uninstalling

It goes without saying that you CANNOT remove Legacy of the Dragonborn mid save. This is modding 101. Only remove Legacy if you intend on starting a fresh game, period. There is no way around this one truth.

Mod Organizer
To uninstall Legacy of the Dragonborn from Mod Organizer, simply right click on the entry for it in your left pane and choose "uninstall mod"

Nexus Mod Manager
To uninstall Legacy of the Dragonborn from NMM, simply right
click on the entry for it and choose "uninstall mod". After this has been completed, verify inside your /Data folder that all files did in fact get removed. Refer to the manual file/folder list below or compare files from the Legacy installation archive to ensure NMM removed everything, it quite often does not.

Manual
To remove legacy from your system is more involved with a manual install as some items may be shared with other mods. Below is a list for your discretion. The items marked with an asterisk (*) are items that are likely shared and you should proceed with caution in removing them. The easiest method is to open the Legacy installation archive and see what files are in the marked folders and remove those from your system.

  • /Data/LegacyoftheDragonborn.ESP
  • /Data/LegacyoftheDragonborn.BSA
  • /Video/LegacyCredits.Bik
  • /Textures/Weapons/*
  • /Textures/DBM Resources/
  • /Sound/FX/qst/Ysmir/
  • /Sound/FX/Legacy/
  • /Sound/FX/Ambr/
  • /Sound/FX/(all files starting in LB_)
  • /Music/Elsweyr
  • /Music/Dungeon/(all files starting in LB)
  • /Music/*
  • /Meshes/Weapons/*
  • /Meshes/DBM Resources
