About this mod

High-poly meshes for the rocks of New Vegas. Adds a lot of detail, fixes UV & collision, reduces draw calls. New textures & fitting LOD. Makes rocks look like rocks.

This mod reworks all 41 of the regular rocks and cliffs of the Mojave adding new 3d detail and textures. No more triangle/pyramid shaped rocks where every face is textured independently from the rest.



The new 3d topology follows the shapes of the textures -- if there is a cavity in the texture there is one in the mesh as well. This looks particularly good if you add shadows to your game.
The textures are of layered rocks similar to the vanilla one and typical of the Mojave (same as the ones in my Parallax Series mod).
The meshes follow the general shape of vanilla rocks, so they blends seamlessly with the vanilla game. All meshes have completely reworked UVs so you will no longer see seams in the middle of a rock formation. Collision is fixed and has 2 materials where needed, so shooting the gravel will no longer produce a stone decal, also footsteps will sound as walking on dirt. I have removed the trim decal, as it is no longer needed and it saves a draw call.

Vanilla meshes typically hover around 8000 to 10000 polygon. The mod increases the polygon count by 3 to 4 times depending on the mesh and texture used. This means a cliff with gravel on top has around 35000 polygons. I have added NiLOD, an LOD system that is embedded within the mesh, to improve performance. Wall did some profiling you can see in the image below. There is an FPS hit of about 7%. That being said, in normal gameplay I didn't see any FPS difference when using the mod.



INSTALLATION
To correctly install the mod you need to download 3 files from the files tab and generate new LOD (see below). Download meshes (1), textures (2), and LOD (3). Textures and LOD have two options each, higher and lower quality. Choose depending on your system configuration. The misc files section has further mesh options for advanced users (see below).

The mod makes use of the excellent LOD replacement by Osu -- Wasted LOD - Cliffs of MojaveIn order to take advantage of the custom LOD textures you need to load their mod before this one and regenerate LOD using xLodGen (follow this guide).

The mod has 5 different textures for the rocks and 1 for the gravel. Red & black rocks as well as cave entrances are not covered. If you are looking for complementing textures for those use the Parallax series -- Rocks variety mod.

I have included patches for Desert Landscapes and Wasted Grass Objectification mods.

In the misc files section you can download a version of the meshes that you can use with the default or custom texture of your choice.
The gravel on the meshes uses the parallax shader. If you are having issues with it you can download the file in misc section with parallax disabled.
