About this mod

This is a culture troop sub-mod for CrusaderBlade/ Crusader Kings 3 (CB-CK3). Levies, Men-at-Arms, and Knights troop changes for every culture in Africa. The goal is to create a variety of different themed units that vary culture to culture. With the end goal of being historically accurate with some creative freedom.

What this mod is and does:
This is a troop mod I created for CrusaderBlade.  The purpose was to change all the cultures troop trees in CrusaderBlade to be culture specific. This is the first step in that process. Starting with Africa first, this will be the first step in several mods that will change entire cultural regions. The ultimate goal is to make every culture in CK3 have their own troop types.

Current Working Version:
- Bannerlord 1.7 (Currently works and tested with 1.7 and equivalent version mods)
- Some of the weapons have changed with updated armories. Next version will fix and tweak, and explore additional armor options.
- Bannerlord 1.6.4 (Currently works and tested with 1.6.4 and the equivalent version mods.)

Current Troop Trees:
In CK3 there is main culture groups with sub-cultures. Starting with the main culture group I have customized the Men-At-Arms and Levies. I have also made an assortment of banners in some solid colors, and pattern designs. Highly recommend to try them out or add your own. These are the cultures with modified units in Africa currently.

- Akan
- Berber
- Central African
- East African
- Guinean Uplander
- Horn African
- Sahelian
- Senegambian
- Yoruba
- African culture specific Men-at-Arms (Bush Hunters, Sahel Horsemen, etc.)

Planned Features:
- Balance different cultures
- Add more specific culture troop trees.
- Add more banner variations.
- Possibly make the cultures historically accurate.

Required Mods:
These mods are required for the troops to show up and appear properly. The required armories are needed for some of the troop types(I wish I was allowed to just bundle the armories' together).  Banners is an optional mod, and I have made banners.json a separate file from the troops, until further Crusader Blade releases.

Install Instructions:
Follow these instructions after you have installed required mods, and followed their respective install instructions.  Spoilers contain, hints and long winded install stuffs.

Step 1: Download Mod
Step 2: Unzip mod into Modules folder (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord) It should extract the Modules folder and subfolders within.
Step 3: Overwrite all when asked. (Adds lines to armourys submodule.xml to make it work for CrusaderBlade. It adds additional folders to CrusaderBladeTroops, and overwrites submodule.xml to include my troop folders)
Step 4: Download optional banners.json and overwrite current banners.json.  If you have custom banners you don't want to lose make a copy of yours or cut and paste specific parts into yours. Or skip.(See Spoilers for help)
Step 5: Check load order, and Version #'s, put jrdAfricanTroops at the bottom
Step 6: Enjoy the troops!

Optional Banner Install and Editing Info:

I make the current banners list file as I play CK3 and get an itch to change banners.  So this is what I came up with so far.

To edit your banners and the banners of other cultures, you open banners.json in your CrusaderBladeBanners folder in (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\CrusaderBladeBanners)

Recommended Notepad++ or text editor of choice. Works in Bannerlord custom battle for quick testing, and can be edited while you play CrusaderBlade as well.

Tip: I just highlight the numbers in between "    "  and paste into desired culture. I also make up banners in the designer as I play, and edit the banners.json real quick before battle to see how the banner looks.

This is how I would swap the troop tree to another culture.  Say I wanted the African tree for Hausa i would swap out akan with hausa and they will use the jrd_african troop type. Or you could copy the xml and rename to new culture, then edit culture and troop tree.

Currently the below load order is working. I don't know if its the best order, and don't claim to, but it does work currently for me. If it isn't working, check the version number.  Also if for example you don't use Realistic Battle module, or RTS Camera then still use this order with it removed. I will try to update load order with each iteration of CrusaderBlade.

Step 2: Delete jrdAfricanTroops from Modules folder.
Step 3: Go into CrusaderBladeBanners folder and delete banners.json. Replace with default.
Step 4: Should be no trace of mod banners or troops remaining.

Balance Logic:
Currently with the CK3 army composition, we have Levy based battles with Men-At-Arms. I have tried to create a base line weapon and gear loadout for balance.  I have made sure all cultures levies and men-at-arms will have similar load outs with similar tier weapons.  I have grouped the CK3 troops into 4 levels, each level has similar gear and weapons. More balance information to follow as I toy with values and find a happy medium.
